In Himachal Pradesh, due to the snowfall season in winter, the doors of the temples of Gods and Goddesses are closed. The doors of Kartik Swami temple in Bharmour, Chamba have also been closed, which will open after about five months.
Bharmour. (Chamba). The doors of Lord Karthik Swami (Keylang Wazir) temple, which is one of the famous religious places of North India, were closed as per traditional rituals. After the formal puja, the doors were closed, which will now be opened only after the religious rituals on Baisakhi next year.
This temple of Lord Kartikeya, the eldest son of Lord Shiva, is located in Bharmour in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. This ancient temple is situated on a high hill peak, about 5 kilometers walking distance from Kugti village of tribal area Bharmour. Every year devotees from different parts of the country come here for darshan. Even during Manimahesh Yatra, a large crowd of devotees gather here.
The temple of Mata Marali, sister of Lord Kartikeya, is also situated at a higher height from the temple complex, where devotees especially visit.
According to the age-old tradition, before closing the doors, the priests install an urn filled with water inside the temple. When the doors are opened again on the day of Baisakhi, the water level present in the Kalash is considered a sign of the coming year’s harvest, happiness and prosperity or possible natural calamities. If the water level in the Kalash is high then it is considered a symbol of auspiciousness and progress, whereas low or dry water level is considered a sign of fear of disasters.
At the same time, some pundits believe that wherever there are temples on hilly areas across the country, their doors are closed in winter. Because it is possible that there is a lot of snowfall in those days and the pundits cannot come there for worship. This could also be a reason why the doors of these temples are closed for the next three-four months. He said that similarly in some other parts of the country also temples are closed in the same manner.

Temple priest Swami Bhuvneshwar Sharma said that the doors were closed amidst the chants of “Karthik Swami Keylang Wazir” in the presence of hundreds of devotees who had come from different areas of the state. Now the doors of the temple will be reopened after 134 days, i.e. on 14th April. It is noteworthy that a reel of this temple had gone viral on social media. In this people were seen singing bhajans.
