Darbhanga House, Patna is a campus of Patna University, where every year a large number of students take admission for post graduation in subjects like History, Economics, Political Science, Journalism, Sanskrit and Arabic. He studies by staying in this palace. The rooms of the king and queen have been converted into classrooms. This building is no less than a heritage.
This palace named Darbhanga House is divided into two parts. One part is called Raja Block and the other is called Rani Block. Raja Block situated in the western direction is the main center of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Many departments including history, political science, economics work here.

Similarly, Rani Block situated in the east is considered to be the hub of studies of languages and journalism. Apart from journalism, courses in local and foreign languages are conducted here. This block has become a multi language hub for the students. Every student dreams of studying in this campus.
The construction of Darbhanga House was completed in the year 1901. This palace situated on the banks of Ganga used to be the residence of Darbhanga Maharaj. A street adjacent to this house leads directly to Ganga Ghat. After the independence of the country, in 1955, the Darbhanga royal family donated this grand palace to Patna University with the intention of developing education. Since then this campus has remained an important part of the university.
The architects of this building built during the Darbhanga Raj were English. It was designed by Charles Munt. This magnificent palace displays a rare blend of Mughal and British architectural styles. Long verandahs have been built in this building, which were a traditional way of protection from heat and rain. The ceilings are much higher than normal buildings so that air flow is better and the internal environment remains cool.
The entire structure of Darbhanga House is symmetrical with Raja Block and Rani Block spread in equal proportions in both directions, making it appear like an orderly palace even when seen from a distance. A very ancient Kali temple is also located in this historical building. Initially this temple was open only for the royal family, but after coming under Patna University, it was opened for the common people also.
