New Delhi. Hero MotoCorp is India’s largest two-wheeler brand. There are many budget bikes in the company’s portfolio which have a huge customer base in India. Now the company is not going to bring a budget bike but a powerful bike with 440cc engine in collaboration with a brand like Harley Davidson. Harley-Davidson is preparing to expand the 440cc platform and is expected to launch a new motorcycle in December 2025. This will be the third model to be based on the same 440cc engine and architecture that currently powers the Harley-Davidson X440 and Hero Mavrik 440. This step is part of Hero’s strategy to make the most out of its partnership with American brands by offering multiple formats on a single platform.
440cc long-stroke single-cylinder engine
The 440cc air-oil cooled, long-stroke single-cylinder engine has already proven its mettle. It produces 27.37 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, which comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. Almost 90 percent of its torque is available at 2,000 rpm itself, making this bike powerful for both city driving and comfortable cruising on the highway.
X440 and Mavrik 440
The Harley-Davidson X440, to be launched in 2023, is produced in India in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. It became Harley’s most affordable and easily available bike, allowing the brand to enter a segment that had been dominated by Royal Enfield for a long time. The design of the X440 is a neo-retro roadster, which is inspired by the XR 1200 Sportster. It has a trellis frame, teardrop fuel tank, round LED headlamps and blacked-out engine components. Its price starts from Rs 2.39 lakh.

Hero has its own version Mavrik 440. It has the same engine and basic chassis, but the styling and positioning are different. It comes in three variants, whose price ranges between Rs 1.99 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh. The Mavrik targets buyers who want the performance of a 440cc but not the Harley badge. The decision to launch another 440cc model shows that Hero is seeing more opportunities in this segment. While the X440 focuses on classic Harley styling and the Maverick as an everyday roadster, the new model could go in a different direction. There is talk in the industry that it could be a scrambler-style, adventure touring or more street-focused bike.
Why is 440cc special?
Industry experts believe that the engine size of 440cc gives an excellent balance. It has enough power for highway driving and confident overtaking, yet remains manageable for those upgrading from 150cc or 250cc. It also bridges the gap between entry-level and expensive bikes above 500cc, giving companies flexibility in pricing and features.
