This combination of cold butter, flour and cheddar cheese tastes so good that after making it once, you will want to make it again and again.
Ingredients required to make these-
8 tbsp (115 g) cold unsalted butter
1 ½ cups (195 grams) all-purpose flour
1 ¾ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
¼ tsp black pepper powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup (118 ml) cold full cream milk (more if needed)
⅓ cup (85 g) grated sharp cheddar cheese
Method of preparation-
1. Preheat the oven- Heat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a baking sheet with butter paper or a silicone mat. If you want, you can also use cast iron pan.
2. Mix dry ingredients- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and salt and mix well.
3. Prepare butter- Keep aside 1 tablespoon of the total butter, it will be used later for applying on the biscuits. Cut the remaining 7 tablespoons butter into small cubes or grate it with a box grater.
4. Mix butter and flour- Mix butter with flour and prepare a crumb-like mixture by kneading it with your fingers. Keep in mind that the butter should be cold so that the biscuits become puffy and soft.
5. Add cheese- Now add grated cheddar cheese to this mixture.
6. Prepare dough by adding milk- Slowly add cold milk with a fork and keep mixing. The mixture will look a little sticky and crumbly, this is the correct texture. If it seems too dry then add 1–2 tbsp more milk.
7. Put on the tray- Now with the help of a spoon, drop about 3 tablespoons of dough one by one on the baking sheet. Keep a distance of about 1 inch between each biscuit.
8. Bake biscuits- Bake for 10–15 minutes, until the biscuits have risen and become light golden. Don’t worry if a little butter melts and spreads on the bottom, this enhances the taste.
9. Apply butter on top- Melt the reserved 1 tablespoon butter and brush it on the hot biscuits. Serve them hot only.
Storage Tips-
-Keep the remaining biscuits in an airtight container for 1–2 days.
-Remains good for 5 days in the fridge.
