Behrampur (Odisha). A unique and inspiring wedding was seen in Behrampur, Odisha, where the bride and groom started their new life by taking oath on the Indian Constitution instead of religious rituals at the time of marriage. Not only this, both of them also donated blood and appealed to the guests to also donate blood. Pritipanna Mishra (40) and B. Bhanu Teja (43) garlanded each other and chose each other as their life partner and took an oath to adopt the dignity and values of the Constitution. On this occasion, many guests including the couple donated blood, in which a total of 18 units of blood were collected.
Pritipanna Mishra is originally from Behrampur and is a system analyst in a private company in Hyderabad. Bhanu Teja is a resident of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh and works as a scientist in a company in Bengaluru. Both of them met a few years ago during a seminar in Hyderabad. The unique wedding was initiated by Mishra’s mother, Vidyutprabha Rath, a retired government employee and Odia novelist. Rath had earlier organized his son’s marriage in a similar manner in the year 2019. He talked to Teja’s family and got them to agree to this unique event.
Has this happened before also?
Vidyutprabha Rath said, ‘The Constitution is a holy book for every Indian. People should understand and adopt the ideals written in it. Pritipanna and Teja expressed hope that their initiative will increase awareness in the society and others will also make similar efforts. This marriage was organized with the help of Humanist Rationalist Organization (HRO), which expressed hope that in the coming times, more youth will come forward for marriage free from social constraints like caste, horoscope and dowry. HRO Ganjam Unit Secretary K. Nandeshu Senapati said that at least five such marriages have been conducted in Behrampur in the last five years.
What kind of marriage is this across the seven seas?
Just a few days ago, a strange incident of a marriage in Canada came to light. According to media reports, Melissa and Devon refused to postpone their marriage under any circumstances. They were to get married on November 10 at Petio Lake Viewpoint in Alberta. Despite the warning from the Meteorological Department, the couple said that they will get married only at the fixed place and at the fixed time. The couple endured a snowy trek of about half an hour to reach the spot inside Banff National Park. Photographers Marcin and Dorota Karpowicz also decided to support the couple after being warned. But the bride clearly said that no matter what the weather is, she wants to get married there.
