New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament is starting from today i.e. Monday. This time the session is likely to be very turbulent. The opposition has made full preparations to corner the government regarding the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) i.e. special revision of the voter list. In the all-party meeting held on Sunday, the opposition made it clear that if SIR is not discussed, they will not allow the Parliament proceedings to continue. The opposition seems united on this issue. However, the government has sought cooperation from the opposition to run the House smoothly. The government has assured the opposition that they will consider their demands. But the attitude of the opposition shows that it is in a one-and-done mood.
On behalf of the government, a proposal was made to discuss the completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Rajya Sabha. The opposition agreed to this, but also put forward its own conditions. The opposition says that the government will also have to discuss the SIR. The opposition wants it to be included as part of a broader debate on electoral reforms. And this discussion should take place on Monday afternoon only. According to sources, the government has told the opposition that they will consider it and give a reply.
The government is preparing to bring 13 bills.
After all, what does the opposition want?
The opposition also raised the issue of SIR in the BAC meeting of the Lok Sabha. The opposition wants that time should be fixed for debate on electoral reforms. The government says that the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025 will be discussed first in the lower house (Lok Sabha). The government has called it a constitutional obligation. It is clear from this that no consensus has been reached between the government and the opposition regarding the agenda.
