Raipur News: An 8 to 10 inch pot is considered best for planting a strawberry plant because it gives enough space for the plant to spread and form strong roots.

City’s gardening expert Vishwajeet told Local 18 that the December-January season in Chhattisgarh is considered most suitable for growing strawberries. The plant grows rapidly in low temperatures and with little care starts bearing fruits within a month. This is the reason why potted strawberry cultivation is becoming increasingly popular in city homes, balconies and rooftops.
He explains that soil plays the most important role in this because strawberry is a delicate but fast growing plant. He suggested that the base should be made by adding well prepared rotted cow dung manure, coco peat or straw to the normal soil. This mixture provides soft, moist and airy soil to the roots, allowing the plant to grow without any stress. Add super phosphate once a month
He further said that regular use of mustard cake and DAP fertilizer is considered very important to increase the growth of the plant. These provide essential nitrogen and phosphorus to the plant, due to which the leaves become dense and the process of formation of flowers and fruits speeds up. He believes that by adding super phosphate once every month, the grip of the plant’s roots becomes stronger and the strawberry fruits become better in shape and taste.
Different method of watering in winter
The method of watering during cold weather is also different from normal days. According to expert Vishwajeet, watering should be done every day in winter so that excess moisture does not accumulate in the soil. There is a risk of fungus growing due to excess moisture. For this reason the use of fungicide is extremely important. He told that the clear powder available in the market is the most effective fungicide for strawberry plants. Mixing two ml of clear powder in one liter of water and spraying it once a month keeps the plants safe from many diseases.
Fruits will be visible in about 30 days
The strawberry plant usually grows up to one foot and small red fruits start appearing about 30 days after planting. If the plant gets morning sunlight, balanced nutrition and timely watering, good quality strawberries can be grown even in pots. Gardening experts say that growing strawberries in this season is not only easy but it not only beautifies the balcony or terrace of the house but also provides a natural source of fresh fruits.
