IPS Praveen Kumar: IPS Praveen Kumar took charge of Director General of BSF. He is also the DG of ITBP. After the retirement of Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS Praveen Kumar was given the responsibility of BSF. IPS Praveen Kumar has received many police medals.
New Delhi. IPS officer Praveen Kumar has taken over the charge of Director General of Border Security Force. He took over the responsibility of DG of BSF on Sunday. ITBP DG Praveen Kumar took additional charge of Director General of Border Security Force. BSF is the largest border guarding force in the world. Daljit Singh Chaudhary was the DG of BSF till now, but he retired today. In such a situation, the responsibility has been given to Praveen Kumar.
Praveen Kumar is a 1993 batch officer of Indian Police Service West Bengal cadre. In his career spanning 32 years, he has held various important assignments in both his cadre, West Bengal and the Intelligence Bureau. Earlier on September 30, IPS officer Praveen Kumar had assumed the charge of Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP).
Praveen Kumar has been awarded the Indian Police Medal (IPM), President’s Police Medal (PPM), Police (Special Duties) Medal, Police Internal Security Service Medal, and Exceptional Information Efficiency Medal. Daljit Singh Chaudhary has received four gallantry medals. During Operation Sindoor, BSF was led by Daljit Singh Chaudhary. BSF personnel were awarded two Vir Chakras and 16 gallantry medals for their role in the cross border operations following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Let us tell you that Border Security Force (BSF) is the largest border security force in the world with about 2,70,000 personnel. Whereas ITBP is a central police organization. ITBP soldiers are deployed on the India-China border. As chief of both ITBP and BSF, Praveen Kumar will now oversee the two major border security forces and is responsible for managing both the Himalayan (India-China) and western and northern (India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh) borders. The responsibility of both the departments will remain with him until a permanent successor is appointed or further orders are issued.
