New Guidelines of Blood Pressure: High blood pressure is a disease which secretly causes many diseases in the body. This has the worst effect on the heart. After this it causes many diseases of kidney and nerves. Therefore, timely treatment of high blood pressure becomes necessary. In countries like India, most of the people have high blood pressure but they do not know that this disease is growing in their body. Therefore it becomes more dangerous. In such a situation, the American Heart Association has issued new guidelines for high blood pressure. The most important thing that has been said under the new guidelines is that high blood pressure should be checked at the right time. Let us know other things about the guidelines.
When is blood pressure dangerous?
First of all, know which measurement is called high blood pressure. According to the American Heart Association, if the upper measurement is 120 and the lower one is 80, then it is normal BP. If the upper one is between 120 to 129 then it is increased blood pressure. After this, if the upper one is 130 to 139 and the lower one is between 80 to 89 then it is high blood pressure and it is called stage 1 hypertension. If someone’s BP is 140 or more than 90 then he has very high degree of BP. This is called stage 2 hypertension.
What is in the new guidelines
The American Heart Association has stated in new guidelines issued in August that high BP patients should start treatment in advance. In this, it is mandatory not only to take medicine but also to make changes in lifestyle as per need. It has also been emphasized in the new guidelines that it is very important to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Along with this, it is important to take nutritious diet, remain physically active and maintain proper weight. Many major changes have been made in it since 2017. The most important among these is to anticipate the risk in time. That is, even if there is no BP, still find out whether there is a risk of BP in the future. Due to this, heart diseases can be predicted. In this, the risk of disease is described by combining heart, kidney and metabolic health. The new guidelines also recognize that high blood pressure increases the risk of dementia and memory loss. It has also been advised to include some new lab tests for initial screening, which also includes checking kidney health. Additionally, the American Heart Association believes that new types of medications such as GLP-1 medications may be beneficial for high blood pressure patients who are overweight or obese.
What to do to reduce BP
According to experts, the easiest way to reduce high blood pressure is to adopt a lifestyle like that of our ancestors. That means, wake up in the morning, take a walk, do household chores, then have a healthy breakfast i.e. home-made breakfast which includes items made from whole grains, green vegetables, fresh fruits etc. After this, do whatever work you want but eat pure food in the afternoon. Include rice, roti, pulses, green vegetables etc. in your diet. Apart from this, include dry fruits, seeds, dry fruits etc. in the diet. Drink enough water throughout the day. Don’t take stress. Try to be happy. Exercise regularly for half to an hour. Always keep movement in the body and sleep early at night. There should be no reduction in sleep. This lifestyle will prevent not only blood pressure but also the risk of many other diseases.
