Alwar Onion Farmers Loss: Due to low prices of red onion this time, farmers of Alwar district are facing huge losses. Last year at this time the price of onion was Rs 2200 per 40 kg. At the same time, this year the price is ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 500 per 40 kg.
Due to this huge decline in onion prices, farmers are not able to even cover the cost of bringing onions from their fields to the market. Due to which the farmers are suffering huge losses and are deeply disappointed. Many farmers, troubled by this, have destroyed onions in the fields themselves. Let us know, what do the farmer friends have to say?
Why did the demand for onion fall in Alwar district?
The demand for red onion of Alwar district remains in different states of the country. However, this time due to ban on export of onion, farmers did not get the benefit. Also, due to the recent rains, there was a problem of moisture and rot in the onion crop.
Due to fear of spoilage, traders from other states did not purchase onions from Alwar. Due to which farmers could not get fair price for their crops. Mandi trader Abhay Saini said that due to stock of onion in some states, the demand for onion in Alwar has been less this time.
What did the farmers say?
Mandi trader Abhay Saini said that onion crop was grown on about 64 thousand hectares i.e. about 2.5 lakh bighas of land in Alwar district and this time about one lakh families have been affected by it. According to him, farmers have suffered a huge loss of Rs 500 to 1000 crore.
Farmer Pappu Bhai Pradhan said that, in other states, governments decide the differential price for farmers. If one bigha costs Rs 50 thousand and farmers are getting only Rs 15 thousand. He told that farmers are not being heard here.
Some farmers who reached Alwar onion market said that this time the loss is huge. About 60 thousand rupees are spent in preparing onion crop in one bigha, but the same onion is not being sold in the market even for 20 thousand rupees. Apart from this, separate expenses are being incurred in bringing the crops to the market, due to which the financial pressure on the farmers has increased further.
