Gonda: A young farmer from Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh has given a new look to his farming and has started multi-cropping farming with sugarcane. With this innovative effort they are getting good profits in a short time. Farmer Manish Kumar Tiwari says that earlier he used to do traditional farming of only sugarcane, but now he has sown other seasonal vegetables and pulses in between the sugarcane crop.
While talking to Local 18, Manish Tiwari told that the sugarcane crop takes a lot of time to grow. Therefore, he is growing vegetables like potatoes, peas, gram and coriander in the empty space between the sugarcane crops. Due to this, the farm is being fully utilized and additional income is also being generated in a short time. This method is called multi-crop farming.
Five types of farming in one field
Manish Tiwari tells that he has studied till graduation. After studies, he was preparing for a government job, but he also had a deep interest in farming. At present he is cultivating potatoes, peas, gram and coriander along with sugarcane, due to which his source of income has also increased.
Manish Tiwari told that earlier he used to cultivate only potatoes along with sugarcane, which was called co-cropping. But later he went to Mankapur and reached the farm of progressive farmer Praveen Kumar Singh. There he saw that Praveen Kumar Singh had also planted potatoes, peas, gram and coriander along with sugarcane. When Manish asked what it was, he was told that it was called multi-cropping farming. advantage of multi crop farming
Manish Tiwari says that his pocket money comes from multi-cropping farming. Sugarcane is a one year crop and it also involves a lot of cost. With this cost, the monthly expenses are covered by doing value added farming. When sugarcane is sold, they get the entire profit directly.
Manish further explains that the biggest advantage of multi-cropping farming is that many crops are available at the same cost. This not only ensures maximum utilization of the fields, but also makes the income of the farmers stable. Presently he is doing multi-cropping farming in about one acre.
