BLW Achievement: BLW i.e. Banaras Locomotive Works has exported another powerful engine to the African country Mozambique. This engine can run at a speed of 100 kilometers.
New Delhi. Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has once again made India proud on the international stage. BLW has dispatched the sixth indigenous 3,300 horse power diesel-electric locomotive engine to the African country Mozambique. A total of 10 such modern engines are to be sent to Mozambique, which are being exported through RITES. Earlier, engines had also been sent on June, September, October and 12th December.
These 3,300 HP Cape Gauge engines manufactured by BLW can run at a speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour. For the convenience of the driver, necessary level facilities like modern cabin, fridge, hot plate and mobile holder have been provided, which makes working easy and safe. Along with these features, this engine also meets international standards. Along with manufacturing such engines, India has also started exporting them.

BLW located in Varanasi is a major factory of Indian Railways and is now becoming a major center of engine export. Since 2014, BLW has sent engines to countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Mozambique, which has strengthened the railway system there. Under ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’, Indian Railways is proving capable of manufacturing trains and engines as per the needs of different countries. India is now exporting metro coaches, passenger coaches, engines and other railway equipment to European countries like Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy as well as to many countries in Africa and Asia. These achievements of BLW show that India is becoming self-reliant in terms of technology and its hold in the global railway market is continuously getting stronger.
It was started with the cooperation of America
The establishment of Diesel Locomotive Works i.e. DLW was started in the year 1961 with the collaboration of Indian company M/s Elco and American company. In the year 2020, its name was changed to BLW, in which B stands for Banaras. Its purpose is to meet the needs of Indian Railways and it has also started exporting to other countries of the world. Railway engines manufactured in BLW are completely based on indigenous technology.
