West Bengal SIR: Assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal next year. Before that, on the lines of Bihar, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign has been launched by the Election Commission in Bengal to correct and revise the voter list. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is against this and is continuously protesting. Leaders of other opposition parties are also protesting. On the other hand, after the launch of SIR, a large number of people are also being seen going to Bangladesh. Many people are also admitting that they do not have valid documents to live in India. In many cases it has also come to light that Voter ID cards were made fraudulently. Amidst all this, a shocking claim has now been made by the Election Commission. The Commission claims that there are 26 lakh voters in West Bengal whose names do not match with the electoral rolls of 2002. Election Commission officials also told what such voters will have to do next and what action the Commission can take if appropriate steps are not taken.
