New Delhi : You must have heard that the kidneys of some children suddenly fail at the age of 10 years. Whereas he does not have diabetes. There is no high blood pressure. There is no such disease which causes kidney failure. Despite all this, many times children’s kidneys fail at an early age. Also children have to go on dialysis. After all, what is the main reason for this?
What are its symptoms and how to prevent it and which treatment is better. To know the answers to all these questions, the Local 18 team spoke to Dr. Pawan Vasudev, Head of the Department of Urology, Safdarjung Hospital. Let us tell you that Dr. Pawan Vasudev is the same doctor who, along with his team, recently performed the kidney transplant of an 11-year-old child in Safdarjung.
Reasons for kidney failure in children
Dr. Pawan Vasudev, Head of the Department of Urology, said that the main cause of kidney failure in children starts from the mother’s womb itself. When due to some reasons the child’s kidney does not develop. This is called congenital disorder. He told that in such cases, if an elder gives his kidney to a child, then we have to make space in that child’s body. Then we fit the kidney in it. As we have done in the kidney transplant of an 11 year old child.
Dialysis is painful for children
The doctor told that in this case the mother had donated a kidney to save the life of her child. He told that if a child’s kidney fails, then in most of the cases the family members consider dialysis to be the best treatment, but in dialysis the entire blood gets purified. It has to be done twice a week. It is very painful for small children.
In such a situation, if someone is ready to give a kidney to the child, then kidney transplant is the best option. With this the child can live a normal life, but he has to take some precautions. Be it his eating habits or his entire lifestyle. There is no need for dialysis after kidney transplant. He told that this is a congenital defect of the kidneys or urinary tubes. Retention of urine since birth or urine going back into the kidney often causes kidney damage.
These are the symptoms of kidney failure
Dr. Pawan Vasudev told that the main symptoms of kidney failure in children are the first to appear, such as change in urination i.e. less or more urination, blood or foam, swelling in the body like face, eyes, legs, constant fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, stomach ache, irritability and delayed development. He told that if these symptoms are seen in the child, then do not delay and immediately go to the doctor and get treatment. Due to this, the child gets better treatment in time.
